A design library dedicated to connecting people with design.
VOLUMES is a non-lending library with an extensive collection of books, magazines, posters, and ephemera spanning disciplines, decades, and genres.
All materials are available for in-library use. We encourage visitors to explore, photograph, scan, and engage with the collection.

How do i access the library?
You will need to be buzzed in using the CALL feature on the touch screen next to the door.
What is the cost to visit?
We suggest a $5 hourly / $15 day donation
What's the transit & parking situation?
We encourage biking and public transit. We have secure indoor bike parking. The library is directly across the Green and Orange MAX line, at the 5th & Oak stop. The Blue & Red Max lines also have a nearby stop at 1st & Oak.
There are multiple paid parking lots in the surrounding blocks, and metered street parking is available.
Are photos allowed?
Yes, photography and scanning is encouraged. Our lighting is optimized for photographing books. There is a flatbed and touchless scanner on site.
ARE LAPTOPS ALLOWED? Is this a co-working space?
Yes, we encourage folks to work in the space. Video conference calls are not allowed during public hours.
How is this funded? Do you accept donations?
VOLUMES is fiscally sponsored by The Wonderment Cooperative 501(c)(3): All donations are tax-deductible.
We are funded by donations, grants, gift shop sales, rentals and private events.
Materials can be donated. We can provide a receipt for tax-deduction. Your donations help us care for and grow the collection, expand public programs, support fellowships, and provide greater access to design knowledge. We cannot guarantee that the donation will be included in the collection.
Do You OFFER FIELD TRIPS, private events, or off-sites?
Yes, we welcome student visits and offer private event rentals, guided tours, and curated experiences. Please contact us at [email protected] to discuss your specific needs.
Will you be offering memberships?
Not at the moment, but if there is a growing need for folks who would like to work outside of public hours we will definitely consider it!
